How history can help conserve old grasslands

“Not so much out with the new but more in with the old: How history can help conserve old grasslands”

The next History Live meeting will be on Wednesday March 1st at 7.30 in Warslow Village Hall (doors open 7pm for refreshments).  We are really pleased to welcome Ann Cantrell as our speaker.  Some of you may remember her talk several years ago at Hollinsclough when she came to tell us about the Glorious Grasslands project at the South West Peak Landscape Partnership.  Ann is a farm and wildlife advisor who now works in a freelance capacity having previously had roles with organisations such as Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, Natural England and Peak District National Park.  She is currently running two groups which aim to encourage farmers to work together to benefit the environment.

Learning how people throughout our history have shaped, managed and used land is important to understand as it will help increase appreciation of some our most precious wildlife habitats.  We will consider how historical information can help conservationists identify important grasslands which need protecting or could be restored.
