About Us

High calibre speakers share their expert knowledge in local history, with a chance to socialise over homemade cakes and beverages before the meeting.
The meeting season runs from September through to May, but before you come along to one, you might like to know more about us, so feel free to get in touch.

After lockdown, History Live took a decision, difficult after 35 odd years based in Hollinsclough, but our popularity meant that we had outgrown the Hall in the village.  With our need to keep safe after the pandemic, moving to Warslow Village Hall enabled us not only to accommodate larger numbers of audience but to initiate social distancing more easily.

Anyone wishing to see the updated Constitution for History Live, (adopted but an unsigned copy to protect the Committee’s signatures for GDPR) see via this link.

A bit of history about History Live

By Victoria Rowe (one of the original Founders)

“History Live was started by the late Sue Gaukroger and several other local people. It was Sue who came up with the name History Live. The first meeting was held on Sept 1st 1992, in Hollinsclough. At that time it was very much a local history group of individuals, who independently carried out a lot of local history research.
Every year a subject was agreed, for example the last one I think was about the winter of 1947. Then for one week in the summer an exhibition would be put together at Home Farm. Most of the ground floor was taken over, with overflow in the outbuildings and fields; all the locals would find stuff in their attics/fields etc and bring it along. These were fantastic events and everyone loved them.
In addition to individuals doing research and the annual exhibition there were also talks just as there are now. Many local people would come; the demographic has now altered quite considerably with people coming from further afield now that the popularity of the group has spread far & wide.
The group has managed in the past to get funding to run a number of different history courses and these have helped to stimulate local interest.”
