Hartington – Ancient & Modern by Richard Gregory
hartington

7th September 2022. The season’s first History Live meeting

Many of our existing audience will know Richard Gregory as a long standing National Park Ranger, liaising as he did with various local farmers in his work. He was also heavily involved in the Hartington Community Group delving into and saving the history of the area.

Richard’s talk will concentrate on some aspects/themes of mid-20th century Hartington, which emerge from the village History Society’s book based on the diaries [1933 – 1955] of John Sherratt. He resided in Hartington throughout his life [1900 – 1977]. However there will be a brief introduction to some more ancient historical aspects, such as Hartington’s role in markets, its administrative role in West Derbyshire, old routes, links with Chatsworth, links with Buxton, and the background to St. Giles Church, to provide context.
