Finds Liaison Officer at Derby Museum and Art Gallery
Wednesday March 6th at 7.30 (doors open 7pm)
Warslow Village Hall, SK17 0JL
Meghan King is the Finds Liaison Officer for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, based at Derby Museum and Art Gallery. Her job is to record small finds of archaeological interest which are over 300 years old, found by members of the public. Meghan also reports and records objects which qualify as Treasure under the Treasure Act 1996. Before starting in the Finds Liaison Officer role in January 2021, she worked for the Treasure Team at The British Museum as a Treasure Registrar.
Meghan’s talk will provide an introduction to the Portable Antiquities Scheme and the Treasure process, explain her role and then give an overview of interesting finds from around our region. She will also bring along her handling collection so that you can handle typical objects recorded by the scheme.
You are very welcome to bring along any ‘small finds’ that you would like to show to Meghan or ask her about.
Doors will open at 7pm to give you time to have a drink, a cake and a chat! No need to book – just turn up. Entrance is just £4 including refreshments.
*** We all love the home bakes provided by our volunteer catering team but we could really do with some more bakers – either as a ‘one-off’ or regularly. If you would like to contribute a cake please let Elspeth know at the latest by the weekend before the Wednesday meeting so that she doesn’t have too many – or disastrously not enough – cakes for us all!
Free entry to the talk if you bring a cake!!!
