The next History Live meeting will be on Wednesday November 1st at 7.30 in Warslow Village Hall when Cathryn Walton will be telling us all about Leek’s Silk Heritage.
Many of you will be familiar with Cathryn’s work as she is a well-known local historian covering Leek and the Staffordshire Moorlands and gives
many talks and guided walks in our area. She has written several successful books about Leek and the Moorlands as well as family trees.
Cathryn spoke several times when we used to meet at Hollinsclough.
This time we are pleased to welcome her to Warslow when she will tell us all about the story of Leek’s Silk and Textile Mills. She will describe
the working conditions as well as the lives of people who worked in the industry. What did Jacquard weavers, twisters, doublers, spoolers,
examiners, packers and pickers all do anyway? Who do you think started Leek’s silk industry? And why?
